A four-wheel-drive vehicle has more gears than most owners realise. There is the gearbox, then the transfer case, then a differential on each axle, and every one of them sits in its own bath of oil. Traditionally each could ask for a different grade, which is how a simple service turns into three half-used cans on the garage shelf and a real chance of the wrong oil going into the wrong place.

This oil covers all three grades in one can. It is gentle enough for the gearbox, where smooth changes depend on it, and tough enough for the axles, where the gear teeth are under the heaviest pressure in the whole vehicle. It also suits limited-slip differentials.

Because it is fully synthetic, it flows freely when cold, so gear changes are light from the first kilometre, and it resists ageing far longer than a mineral gear oil. Revitalizant then builds a ceramic-metal layer on the gear teeth and bearings. The whole drivetrain runs quieter, wastes less of the engine’s power and lasts longer.

How to use

Check your owner’s handbook for the grade and quantity for each unit. As a rough guide, a car gearbox takes 2 to 3 litres, a differential 1 to 3 litres and a transfer case 1 to 2 litres, so a full 4×4 service can need six cans or more.

With the vehicle level and the oil warm, remove the filler plug first, then the drain plug, and let the old oil drain fully. Refit the drain plug and fill with XADO 75W-90 until the oil reaches the bottom of the filler hole. Refit the filler plug. Repeat for each unit.
