XADO Atomex Stop Leak Engine is an oil additive that stops oil leaking from your engine’s seals and gaskets. You pour it into the engine oil, and it suits petrol, diesel and LPG engines.

It usually starts with a few dark spots where you park. Then you notice the oil level is a little lower each time you check, and there is a faint smell of hot oil after a long drive. Your mechanic looks underneath and gives you the news: a seal is leaking, and replacing it means taking half the engine apart. The seal itself costs very little. The labour does not.

Here is what has usually happened. The seals and gaskets in an engine are made of rubber, and years of heat make rubber shrink and harden. A hard seal no longer presses snugly against the metal, and oil finds its way past.

This additive works on the rubber itself. It restores the elasticity of seals and gaskets so they soften, swell back to their proper shape and press tightly against the metal again. The leak stops, and because the seals stay supple, it helps prevent new leaks from starting.

How to use

Warm the engine up, then switch it off. Pour the whole bottle into the engine through the oil filler cap. One 250 ml bottle treats 4 to 5 litres of engine oil. For small engines, add no more than 10 per cent of the oil volume, which is 100 ml for an engine that holds one litre.

Check that the oil level has not gone above the maximum mark, then drive as normal. The sealing effect develops over the next 300 to 500 km, so give it time before judging the result.

Keep an eye on the oil level while the treatment works, and top up if needed.
