XADO Antifreeze RED 12++ is a long-life engine coolant in concentrated form. One 1.1 kg can, mixed with water, makes 2.5 kg of ready-to-use coolant. It contains Revitalizant, which protects the bearings of the water pump.

The word “antifreeze” puts many Kenyan drivers off. Nothing freezes here, so why not just use water? It is a fair question, and the answer saves engines.

Keeping the cold out is only one of three jobs a coolant does. The second is raising the boiling point, so the coolant stays liquid and keeps carrying heat away when the engine is working hard on a hot day. The third matters most of all: stopping corrosion. Plain water rusts the inside of an engine, eats into aluminium and leaves scale that blocks the radiator.

That is how cooling systems fail, and plain water is usually where the story starts.

RED 12++ is built to prevent that for a very long time. It is made from premium-grade glycol with the latest generation of corrosion inhibitors, which form a protective layer on the metal and renew it wherever it wears thin. It was developed as a fill-for-life coolant for Volkswagen and Audi group cars, and it is compatible with all types of automotive antifreeze.

How to use

This is a concentrate and must be mixed with water before use. Mix the 1.1 kg can with clean distilled or deionised water to make 2.5 kg of ready-to-use coolant, following the mixing table on the can. Avoid tap or borehole water, which leaves scale.

Check your owner’s handbook for how much coolant your system holds. Most cars take 5 to 8 litres, so a full change needs two to three cans.

Only open the cooling system when the engine is cold, as hot coolant is under pressure and can scald. For a full change, drain the old coolant, flush the system with clean water, then fill with the mixed coolant. Run the engine with the heater on until it reaches working temperature, let it cool, and top up to the mark.
