Verylube Radiator Flush is a cleaner that dissolves the scale, rust and dirt inside a radiator and cooling system in just 10 minutes. You use it right before a coolant change. Verylube is XADO’s car care brand.

Take the cap off the radiator of an older car and look inside. Often the liquid is brown, not the bright green or red it should be. That colour is rust, and it tells you what the inside of the cooling system looks like.

It happens to most cars eventually, and faster to those topped up with tap or borehole water, which is common practice here. The minerals in the water settle as hard scale, the same crust you find inside a kettle. Rust from the engine block mixes in, along with the worn-out remains of old coolant. The mixture coats the narrow tubes of the radiator and the passages in the engine, and since scale is a good insulator, the heat can no longer get out.

The engine runs hotter in traffic and on hills, and the needle creeps upwards.

Pouring in new coolant on top does not help. The dirt is still there, and it contaminates the fresh coolant within days.

This flush clears it out first. It dissolves scale, rust and dirt, neutralises the acids that cause corrosion, and leaves a protective film on the metal. The new coolant goes into a clean system, and the engine cools as it was designed to.

A fair word of caution: in a very old or badly corroded radiator, rust can be the only thing plugging a weak spot, and cleaning it away can reveal a leak that was already there. If your radiator is in doubtful condition, let our specialists look at it first.

How to use

Hot coolant is under pressure. Take care when opening the radiator cap, and never open it on a hot engine, as hot coolant or steam can escape and scald you.

Warm the engine until it is warm but not hot, then switch it off. Pour the whole bottle into the radiator or the coolant expansion tank. One 250 ml bottle treats 10 to 12 litres of coolant.

Start the engine and let it idle for 10 minutes with the cabin heater switched on.

Stop the engine and drain the old coolant. Fill the system with clean water, idle the engine for 2 to 3 minutes, then stop it and drain the water.

Finally, fill the system with new coolant and top up to the mark.

Coolant is poisonous. Collect the old coolant and dispose of it responsibly, away from children, animals and drains.
